The Process of
What to expect when working with an energy advisor.
The builder provides plans that detail all aspects of the building envelope, insulation, and other relevant details. Additional specifications, such as space & water heating, window specifications, and ventilation strategies are usually discussed at this stage. When certain details are undecided, reasonable default values are used.
A base-case energy model is created for the building that is expected to be the worst performing. Factors like geometry and minimal South facing glazing are considered in determining this worst-performing scenario. If the building doesn't meet the standards, upgrades are recommended.
Once the upgrade package is decided, the energy models are completed and reports are generated for submission with the building permit. These reports confirm that the project meets energy performance requirements.
An air-tightness test is performed during mid-construction to ensure the project is on track to meet the air tightness requirements.
Upon project completion, a final on-site verification is conducted. This includes checking attic insulation levels, envelope details, window performance, mechanical specifications, and air leakage rate using a blower door test. The data collected during on-site verification is entered into the energy model to create an as-built energy model. The reports are generated and used to obtain occupancy.

"Jason was on time and got our energy assessment done in the amount of time he said it would take. He gave me easily understandable tips for navigating the grants and loans, some renovation tips, and even caught something unrelated in my attic that needed attention. He travelled to Bowser for us for a small and reasonable fee. Plus, he’s a great guy to boot. Highly recommend if you’ve got windows that look like mine or want to upgrade to a heat pump!"

"Jason made our energy assessment and upgrade process super smooth and easy. Renovations are so stressful, and he provided really helpful orientation, reassurance, and suggestions alongside his service of energy assessments. He’s local to the community and has done many of these upgrades on his own home which was helpful to hear about. He came highly recommended and certainly delivered."
